Sponsors confess the Christian faith on behalf of their godchild and bear witness publicly that in Holy Baptism the child obtains forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation. It is, therefore, very important that you choose sponsors who understand and believe the teachings of the Word of God and are active in their Christian faith and life. Naturally, it would be helpful if the sponsors were Lutheran, though the other criteria are the most essential. Please speak with the Pastor in regard to exceptions.
The pastor prefers that gifts not be given to him on this occasion. You may choose to give a special gift for a thank-offering on this day. These gifts would be used for baptismal supplies and Christian education unless you specify it for something else.
